Men's Basketball Travels to Hilbert for Opening Round of AMCC Tournament

FROSTBURG, MD — The Frostburg State men’s basketball team will travel to Hilbert on Tuesday, February 20 for the opening round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament for an 7:00 pm tipoff.

The seedings came down to the final weekend of regular season action as FSU, Hilbert and Penn State Altoona were all battling for the No. 4, 5 and 6 seeds. Both FSU and PSA lost and Hilbert defeated Medaille, 71-55, to earn the fourth seed and right to host a first round game.

The Bobcats travel to Hilbert as the tournament’s No. 5 seed with a 10-15 overall record and an even 9-9 conference mark. The Hawks are the fourth seed and boast a 13-12 overall slate and a 9-9 league record.

Hilbert earned the higher seed over Frostburg State after sweeping the Bobcats during the regular season. In the first meeting, FSU fell to Hilbert in Hamburg, N.Y., 83-59 while in the second contest, held at Bobcat Arena, Frostburg State lost 86-69.

The Bobcats enter the tournament having lost four-straight and five out of their last six contests. FSU’s last win came on February 3 when it defeated Pitt-Bradford 63-56.

Meanwhile, Hilbert enters tournament action having won four out of its last five games. The Hawks ended the regular season and clinched a home tournament game with that 71-55 win over Medaille.

Lake Erie is the No. 1 seed for the second-consecutive season and will earn a first-round bye with a 23-2 overall record and a 17-1 AMCC mark. No. 2 Penn State Behrend also earned a bye in the opening round with a 17-6 record and a 15-2 conference record.

In the other first round matchup, No. 3 seeded Pitt-Bradford will host No. 6 seeded Penn State Altoona on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.

The AMCC championship match is scheduled for Saturday, February 24 at 3:00 pm. The AMCC Tournament champion will receive an automatic bid the NCAA Division III Tournament.

3 pm: Semifinal Winners
