Men's Basketball Upends Mt. Aloysius, 107-83

FROSTBURG, Md. — Seniors Marcus McIntyre (Washington, D.C./Wilson) and Dan Ryley (Frederick, Md./St. John's Prospect Hall) each recorded double-doubles for the Frostburg State men’s basketball team as they defeated Mt. Aloysius 107-83 at Bobcat Arena Tuesday evening. McIntyre scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while Ryley had 21 points and 10 rebounds.

For the game, FSU (7-9, 4-5 AMCC) shot 39-of-73 (53.4%), including 19-of-30 (63.6%) in the second half, to score 100 or more points for the first time all season. The last time the Bobcats reached the century mark, was Jan. 25 of last season when they downed Mt. Aloysius 128-114.

MTA (8-7, 4-5 AMCC) shot 30-of-74 (40.5%) for the contest, including 15-of-31 (48.4%) from three-point range. The Mounties were just 14-of-36 (38.9%) in the second half.

Sophomore Keith Hazel (Weirton, W.Va./Weir), who led all scorers with 23 points, gave Frostburg State the early 4-2 lead just over two minutes into the game. Sophomore Dale DeBerry (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) extended the FSU lead to 8-4, with 16:24 to play in the opening half.

Mt. Aloysius would tie the game at 12 and later take a 23-16 lead after Roman Mims drained a three pointer with 11:13 left.

After a Hazel three pointer with 8:30 to play, the Bobcats took the lead for good 27-25. The visitors would get within one-point of tying the ballgame three more times before FSU pushed its lead to 47-42 at the break.

Frostburg State offense came out in the second half with the cruise control on as it opened a nine-point lead, 54-45, while holding MTA to just one field goal with 15:48 to play in regulation.

A little over three minutes later, McIntyre gave the Bobcats their first double-digit lead, 66-56. At 2:03, senior Dawan El-Amin (Baltimore, Md./Academy Park) gave FSU a 21-point lead, 96-75.

Frostburg State would take its largest lead of the game, 108-81, with 39 seconds left on a junior Jade Belt (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) jumper before going on to capture the win.

Sophomore Brian Owen (Gainesville, Va./Brentsville) scored 12 points and a game-high eight assists and senior Brandon Howell (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) added 10 scores.

MTA was led by Sam Hanik who scored 22 points inculding 6-of-8 from behind the arc.

Frostburg State returns to action Friday, January 27 when it travels to Penn State Behrend at 8:00 pm.
