Men's Basketball vs. Penn State Behrend in First Round AMCC Tournament

FROSTBURG, MD — The Frostburg State men’s basketball team will battle Penn State Behrend tomorrow evening at 8:00 pm in the first round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament.

The No. 6 Bobcats enter the tournament with an 11-14 overall record and an 8-10 conference mark while the No. 3 Lions enter the game with an 18-6 overall record and a 12-5 league record. PSB swept FSU during the regular season.

Frostburg State is led by senior Dan Ryley (Frederick, Md./St. John's Prospect Hall) averaging 14.0 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. He currently ranks 49th in the country in rebounding. He is also second in the AMCC with 35 blocks. Sophomore Brian Owen (Gainesville, Va./Brentsville) is second on the team scoring 12.8 ppg. He leads the Bobcats with 58 three pointers and 3.1 assists per game.

Sophomore Keith Hazel (Weirton, W.Va./Weir) is third on the team in scoring with 11.3 ppg. He became a starter in the sixth game of the season and since then has compiled 13 double-digit scoring performances. Senior Marcus McIntyre (Washington, D.C./Wilson) is fourth in the team in scoring averaging 10.8 ppg. He leads FSU with 25 steals and is second in rebounding (7.7 rpg).

As a team, the Bobcats are shooting 42.9 percent from the floor while out rebounding opponents 39.7 to 38.3.

Penn State Behrend is led by Kevin Buczynski averaging 18.6 points per game. He is also first on the team in blocks (25), second in rebounds per game (6.3) and third in assists (49). Despite not starting a single game, JJ Ferguson is second on the Lion squad averaging 14.8 points per contest followed by David Gahan with 12.0. Gahan leads PSB with 6.6 rebounds per contest.

The winner of the FSU/PSB game, will advance to face No. 2 Pitt-Greensburg in the semifinals Friday evening at 8:00 pm.

The AMCC championship match is scheduled for Saturday, February 25 at 3:00 pm. The AMCC Tournament champion will receive an automatic bid the NCAA Division III Tournament.
