GIBSONIA, PA —
The Frostburg State University men’s cross country team is the favorite to win the 2004 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference title according to a preseason vote among the league’s head coaches.
The Bobcats have dominated the AMCC, winning seven crowns in the league’s eight-year existence. Looking to unseat FSU are Penn State Behrend, which is picked second, and Penn State Altoona, voted to finish third.
Frostburg State junior Ed May (La Plata, Md./La Plata) was voted the AMCC Men’s Preseason Runner of the Year. He was named the 2003 AMCC Runner of the Year after winning the conference championship. He also finished 39th at the NCAA Mid-East Region Championship.
Penn State Behrend is the near-unanimous choice to win the women’s title, while Frostburg State is a strong choice for second. Penn State Altoona is third.
The Bobcat women have also controlled the AMCC, claiming seven league titles in eight years. Penn State Behrend took home the title in 2001.
Penn State Behrend senior Jessica Knapp is this year’s AMCC Women’s Preseason Runner of the Year. Knapp was named the AMCC Women's Runner of the Year last season.
