Men's Cross Country Finishes Seventh at Dickinson Invitational

CARLISLE, PA — The Frostburg State men's cross country team finished seventh out of 19 teams in the combined standings at the Dickinson Long/Short Course Invitational Saturday.

The Bobcats finished ninth in the 4,000-meter event with 102 points and placed 16th in the 8,000-meter event with 179 points.

The FSU women finished 21st out of 36 teams in the 6,000-meter event with 233 points but did not enter runners in the 4,000-meter event and therefore did not place in the combined team standings.

Sophomore Sid Bittinger (Midland, Md./Westmar) enjoyed a solid day, finishing 21st out of 199 runners in the 4,000-meters with a time of 13:25.49. Junior Brian Bonn (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) placed 31st (13:38:07) in his season debut after battling injuries.

Junior Ron Lipscomb (Avilton, Md./Northern Garrett) finished 66th (14:03.28), freshman Stephen Forsha (Rockville, Md./Rockville) was 106th (14:36.72) and freshman Josh Dawson (Elkton, Md./North East) was 113th (14:43.60).

Sophomore Ed May (Bryantown, Md./La Plata) paced FSU in the 8,000-meter event, finishing 40th out of 260 runners in 28:01.40, while junior Mike Replogle (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key) was 65th (28:30.40).

Freshman Scott Yanus (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) finished 92nd (28:59.40), freshman Andy Watson (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) was 115th (29:23.52) and senior Kevyn Allgeier (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) was 156th (30:13.80).

"Sid had the race of the day for the men, Brian had a great season debut and Ed was impressive again in his second race back from injury," said FSU head coach Randy Lowe.

Freshman Bonnie Axman (Burke, Va./Robinson) led the Bobcat women with a 62nd-place finish (25:49.20) out of 203 runners, while sophomore Carolyn Kilkus (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) was 86th in 26:21.33, a 26-second improvement over last year's performance.

Senior Beth Sauder (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) finished 135th (27:31.55), freshman Sheila Kurtz (Thurmont, Md./Boonsboro) placed 149th (28:09.35) and freshman Michelle Carlquist (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) was 178th (30:17.92).

"Bonnie was solid again, mixing it up with the top third of the field, and Carolyn had the race of the day for our women," said Lowe.

The Bobcats return to action October 18 at the Gettysburg College Invitational.
