CARLISLE, Pa. —
The Frostburg State men’s cross country team placed 11th out of 40 teams, while the women placed 19th out of 42 teams in the the NCAA Mid-East Division III Regional Championships Saturday.
Freshman Marshal Lawrence (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) led the men in the 8,000-meter run by placing 42nd with a time of 27:13.4. Lawrence was the sixth freshman to finish overall and was named to the All-Freshman Regional First Team.
Sophomore Curt Ruble (Mineral Wells, W.Va./Parkersburg South) captured 48th place with a time of 27:19.3, while senior Sid Bittinger (Midland, Md./Westmar) rounded out the top three by placing 75th with a time of 27:53.0.
Despite battling an injury for a month, junior Bonnie Axman (Burke, Va./James Robinson) powered the women’s squad with a third-place finish and a time of 22:15.6. Axman’s time qualified her for nationals that will be held next week at Ohio Wesleyan.
Freshman Jennifer Patton (Barton, Md./Westmar) landed in 97th place with a time of 25:11.1 and senior Carolyn Kilkus(Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) rounded out the top three FSU finishers by placing 132nd with a time of 25:57.2.
