FROSTBURG, MD -
The Frostburg State men’s soccer team is eager to get back out on the field to prepare for the upcoming fall season. The goal for the Bobcats next year is simple, win the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Championship and earn the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
In 2003, the Red and Black finished the regular season tied for first and dropped a tough 1-0 decision in the conference championship match to Penn State Behrend.
With 20 returning players Coach Byrnes thinks this team is poised to claim its first championship since the 2001 season.
“We’ve got a very solid nucleus of veteran players returning who saw major minutes in 2003 and we are very pleased with the quality of players in next seasons recruiting class," said Byrnes. "We are all anxious to get out there and start putting things in place for next season. With the number of players we’ll have available in the spring and the schedule we have set up we should have our most competitive off-season yet.”
The Bobcats will look to make the most of their five week off-season as Coach Byrnes hopes to evaluate some of the younger players from this years team by seeing them in action against some strong opponents.
