Frostburg State used three second-half goals from three different players to post a 3-0 shutout of host La Roche College in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match Tuesday afternoon.
The Bobcats improved to 8-5 overall and remained atop the AMCC with a 4-0 league mark, while the Redhawks fell to 5-8-1 and 0-3 in conference action.
The teams fought through an even first half before FSU picked up its pressure after the break.
Senior Gary Lesko (Waldorf, Md./McDonough) broke the scoreless tie in the game's 55th minute with an assist from freshman Mike Jungerheld (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake), and senior Scott Gibson (Myersville, Md./Middletown) notched his first goal of the year off a feed from junior Jon Wieland (Woodbridge, Va./Hylton) just under five minutes later to put the Bobcats up, 2-0.
Frostburg State capped the scoring when freshman Philip Rub (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg) converted a nice crossing pass from sophomore Mike Mutchler (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) with five minutes remaining.
Junior Mike Pregnall (Herndon, Va./Oakton) stopped four shots for his fourth shutout of the year.
Frostburg State, which held a 29-7 advantage in shots, will host Bethany (W.Va.) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
It will be the third meeting between the two teams in less than a year; Bethany defeated the Bobcats, 3-1, in the regular season last year, and FSU responded with a 2-1 win in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
