BRADFORD, PA —
Frostburg State overcame a flat start to score all its goals in the second half to defeat Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Bradford 4-0 and improve its unbeaten streak to eight.
After several missed opportunities in the opening half, the Bobcats (6-3-2, 4-0 AMCC) opened the scoring in the second stanza when sophomore Matt Moffa (Eastern Tech/Baltimore, Md.) fired the ball across the middle and a Panther defender kicked it into his own goal.
Moffa was quick to score on his own when he found the net off an assist from freshman Stephen Zoutman (Goshen/Chester, N.Y.) less than two minutes later to give FSU a 2-0 lead.
Zoutman tallied his second goal of the season and FSU's third of the contest when he scored in the 64th minute off an assist from junior Jon Roth (Magruder/Gaithersburg, Md.).
Sophomore Kodjo Gnatiko (Montgomery Blair/Montgomery Village, Md.) capped the scoring when he found the net in the 72nd minute off another assist from Roth.
Sophomore Bryn Varhol (Bishop O’Connell/Alexandria, Va.) posted his first career shutout for the Bobcats, who out shot the Panthers 18-7.
"We picked it up in the last 15 minutes of the first half and carried that momentum into the second," said head coach Keith Byrnes. "The Panthers came back towards the middle of the game and had some opportunities, but we played very well in the second half and were able to shut down their offense."
The Bobcats return to action on Sunday, October 19th when they host Pitt-Johnstown at 1:00 pm.
