FROSTBURG, MD -
Frostburg State hosted their annual indoor soccer tournament Sunday March 7th. This year, the teams ranged from strong club programs such as Juventus (Prince George's County) and Frederick Excel to alumni teams from FSU and Bethany and club teams with a mix of college players.
There were two teams of current FSU players, the Frostburg Red and Frostburg Gray. Both teams played well and advanced to the playoffs. Frostburg Red took home the Championship going undefeated and unscored upon.
The future looks bright for the Bobcats, as the first place Red team consisted of three freshmen, three sophomores, and three juniors, while the Gray team that advanced to the playoffs consisted of all first year Bobcat players. Coach Byrnes was very pleased with the turnout and level of play in this year’s tournament.
“ It was a great day of soccer, having 12 teams who were all very competitive made for some exciting matches,” said Byrnes. “The main reason for these tournaments is to raise a little money for the program and to give everyone an opportunity to come together and play some soccer. It was great to see both FSU teams play well and for one of them to win it. We are very excited in the direction our program is going and hopefully this is just a sign of things to come.”
