Men's Soccer Defeats Neumann College in Season Opener

FROSTBURG, Md. - Junior Kenny Dotter (Baltimore, Md/Sparrows Point) scored two goals as the Frostburg State men’s soccer team defeated Neumann College 2-0, in it’s season-opening tournament at Bobcat Stadium, on Friday evening.

The Bobcats start the season 1-0, while the Knights fall to 0-1.

FSU was able to possess the ball most of the first half, despite battling a consistent rain. Frostburg netted home it’s first goal of the season when Dotter scored off an assist from Trevor Havey (Eldersburg, Md/Liberty) in the 26th minute.

The Bobcats almost added an insurance goal with three minutes remaining in the half, when Dotter narrowly missed a breakaway opportunity.

The Bobcats came out of halftime with high intensity, controlling much of the second half. Havey had a chance early when his chip-shot from 30 yards, was deflected out for a corner kick by Neumann goalie, Luke Devlin.

FSU scored it’s final goal in the 89th minute when junior midfielder Sean Tana (Baldwin, Md/Loyola Blakefield) played a long ball ahead to Kenny Dotter. Dotter was able to get in behind the Neumann defenders and rip a shot from 18 yards out that landed in the upper corner of the goal.

Frostburg State outshot Neumann College, 17-2, holding the Knights to zero shots the entire first half.

FSU senior goalkeeper Derek Richardson (New Windsor, Md/Linaganore) made one save in the game, earning his first win and first shutout of the season.

Frostburg returns to action on Saturday, September 2 at 1:00 pm, when it plays host to Gettysburg College in the Championship match of the FSU tournament.

Gettysburg played the opening game in the tournament, defeating the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets 4-0. Waynesburg will take on Neumann in the Consolation match at 11:00 am. Both games will be played at Bobcat Stadium.

Game One
Gettysburg 4, Waynesburg 0

Jesse Gemberling-Johnson scored two goals to lead Gettysburg to a 4-0 shutout in the opening round of the FSU Tournament Friday evening at Bobcat Stadium.

Gettysburg improved to 1-0 overall record, while Waynesburg fell to 0-1 to start off the season.

Gemberling-Johnson scored his first goal of the season 29 seconds into the game off an assist from Geoff Mengei to give GC a 1-0 lead. Ryan Peiffer scored the second goal of the game 39 minutes into the contest off a corner kick from Chris Bayon to make the score 2-0.

The Bullets took a 3-0 lead when Gemberling-Johnson scored his second goal of the season in the 41st minute of the game off an another assist from Menge to put Gettysburg ahead 3-0.

The final goal of the game came with 64 minutes on the clock, Bayon scored off a pass from Garret Bruno to give Gettysburg the 4-0 win.

Waynesburg goalie Brad Davis made five saves while Gettysburg keeper Adam Finkel made two stops in the shutout.

Waynesburg will look to rebound Saturday morning at Bobcat Stadium at 11:00 am when it plays Neuman in the consoltation game.

Gettysburg will advance to play Frostburg State in the championship game at 1:00 pm.
