WASHINGTON, PA —
Sophomore Steve Brett (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill)
scored twice and junior Jon Wieland (Woodbridge, Va./Hylton)
added a career-high four assists to lead Frostburg State to a 5-1 victory over Washington & Jefferson Wednesday evening at Cameron Stadium.
The Bobcats (9-5), who won for the fourth straight time, scored three goals in the game's final four minutes to break open a 2-1 contest.
The Presidents (9-6) opened the scoring 7:54 into the game as freshman Mike Chiodo notched his 11th goal of the season off assists from juniors Tom Cameron and Lucas Rendulic.
Frostburg State answered right back just over a minute later when Wieland found senior Brad Limbacher (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) for a goal to tie the contest. Wieland then assisted on a goal by freshman Mike Jungerheld (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) two minutes later to give the Bobcats a 2-1 lead.
The teams then went scoreless until the 86:09 mark as Brett scored the first of his two goals off assists from Wieland and sophomore Mike Mutchler (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown).
Brett found the net again just 32 seconds later, again with an assist from Wieland, and sophomore Rich Kuhn (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) closed the scoring with 2:01 remaining.
Bobcat junior Mike Pregnall (Herndon, Va./Oakton) made five saves in recording the victory, while W & J sophomore Brad Guinn stopped four shots.
Frostburg State visit Penn State Behrend for a crucial Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. A win would guarantee the Bobcats host the AMCC Tournament for the fifth straight year.
