ALTOONA, Pa. –
Bryan Pierzga scored the game-winning goal in th 100th minute to guide Penn State Altoona to a 2-1 overtime win over Frostburg State, Tuesday evening.
FSU falls to 4-8-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference while PSA is now 10-1-2 overall and moves into first place in the conference with a 6-0 record.
PSA scored the games first goal just under five minutes into action when Corey Suter scored on a pass from Josh Gutthridge.
The game would remain 1-0 for the rest of half as the contest headed into intermission. The Lions outshot the Bobcats in the first stanza 6-2.
In the second half, the Bobcats evened the game in the 59th minute. Freshman Steven Jacobsen (Waldorf, Md./West Lake) had a corner kick that PSA keeper Mike Ginnona knocked out of the top of the box. Junior Alex Wilkinson (La Vale, Md./Bishop Walsh) controlled the ball and took a shot from 20-yards out that found the back of the net for FSU.
Over the rest of the second half, Frostburg State netminder Derek Richardson (New Windsor, Md./Linganore) made three big saves to keep the score knotted at one.
In the overtime session, Penn State Altoona took four shots and finally found the net at 99:40 when Pierzga scored off a feed from Tim Morris.
The Lions held the edge in shots for the game, 19-4, including a 9-2 lead in the second half.
Richardson played the entire game for FSU making six saves while suffering his sixth loss of the fall season. Ginnona earned the win allowing one goal while facing just four shots.
Frostburg State returns to action on Sunday, October 15 when it hosts rival Penn State Behrend at 2:00 pm.
