ERIE, PA —
Frostburg State lost 2-0 to Penn State Behrend Saturday afternoon in a crucial Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match.
The Lions (12-4-2, 5-1 AMCC) and the Bobcats (9-5-2, 5-1) both finish 5-1 in league play, but Behrend will be the No. 1 seed in the AMCC Tournament due to today's head-to-head victory.
The Lions used two first-half tallies to best the Bobcats in a physical match played in muddy conditions.
Behrend's Mark Cipriani scored in the 12th minute off an assist from Andy Laver to move the Lions ahead 1-0.
Laver scored in the 33rd minute to cap the scoring.
"Behrend worked hard and deserved its two goals, but we didn't get to see much of a soccer game today," said head coach Keith Byrnes. "We played tough and didn't give up, but our guys couldn't put two passes together in the thick mud. I hope we get a chance to play Behrend again for the conference championship."
The Bobcats return to action on Wednesday, November 5th when they host an AMCC semifinal match against third-seeded Pitt-Greensburg at 2 pm.
