- Frostburg State received a great effort all-around to earn a tough 2-1 victory in double overtime at Mary Washington.
Coming back from a 1-0 deficit, goals by junior Sean Simpson (Kennedy/Silver Spring, Md.) and freshman Matt Moffa (Eastern Tech/Baltimore, Md.) brought the victory home for FSU, while the play of senior goalie Mike Pregnall (Oakton/Herndon, Va.) kept the Bobcats in the game and gave them a shot at the win.
The Bobcats fell behind just before halftime as Mary Washington converted a penalty kick against Pregnall.
Pregnall however was able to shut down everything else Mary Washington was able to put on net. Making seven saves on 17 shots, Pregnall gave FSU a chance to counter.
The chances finally paid off as in the 74th minute Simpson found himself the recipient of a pass from junior Mike DePasquale (North Stafford/Stafford, Va.) and took full advantage of it to tie the game at 1-1. The goal was Simpson's third of the season.
Regulation time finished with the teams tied at one, and again the Bobcats found themselves in familiar territory. Neither team could find the net in the first overtime, as each team was only able to get one shot each.
The second overtime didn’t last long, as Moffa’s fourth goal of the year was assisted by sophomore Marcus Doe (Germantown/Germantown, Md.).
The Bobcats will return home on Wednesday, October 9 to host AMCC opponent La Roche in an important conference match-up at 4:00 p.m.
