ERIE, PA —
Junior Ryan Ohl scored in the 65th minute to lift host Penn State Behrend past Frostburg State, 2-1, Saturday afternoon in a key battle for first place in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
The Lions improved to 9-6-1 overall and 5-1 in the AMCC, while the Bobcats fell to 9-6 and 4-1 in the league. FSU will still host the AMCC Tournament if it defeats Penn State Altoona on Monday, as the Bobcats hold the tiebreaker against Penn State Behrend and Pitt-Greensburg, which is also 5-1 in the league.
The Bobcats, who played without starting midfielders Rich Kuhn (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and Onyibo Ilochi (Silver Spring, Md./Rockville) due to personal reasons, struck first when junior R.J. Purnell (Crisfield, Md./Crisfield) found the net off an assist by sophomore Sean Simpson (Silver Spring, Md./Kennedy) in the game's 10th minute.
Behrend pulled even in the 20th minute as senior Chris Lightner scored with assists from Andy McCormick and Mark Szewczykowski, and the teams went into halftime tied at one.
Junior Mike Pregnall (Herndon, Va./Oakton) made four saves for the Bobcats, who have lost all six of their games this year by a single goal.
The teams each took four shots, while FSU held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
