Frostburg State University battered host and conference opponent Lake Erie 9-1 Saturday afternoon. Freshman Kodjo Gnatiko (Montgomery Blair/Montgomery Village, Md.)
made his scoring debut with a hat trick.
In the first half, R.J. Purnell (Crisfield/Crisfield, Md.) lit up the scoreboard in the 13th minute off an assist from senior Juan Flores (Bethesda Chevy-Chase/Bethesda, Md.). Two minutes later, Onyibo Iiochi (Rockville/Silver Spring, Md.) found the net off an assist from junior Steve Brett (Fort Hill/Cumberland, Md.).
With less than one minute remaining in the first half, Jon Roth (Magruder/Gaithersburg, Md.) scored, notching the score to 3-0.
At 3:07 in the second half Gnatiko scored the first of his three goals off an assist from Iiochi. Two minutes later senior Jon Wieland (Hylton/Woodbridge,Va.) scored, bringing the score to 5-0.
Just over three minutes later, Gnatiko scored a pair of goals. The first in the 53rd minute and the second in the 57th minute off an assist from Roth.
At the 65 minute mark, junior Rob Burns (Joppatowne/Joppatown, Md.) scored, bringing the tally to 8-0. In the 78th minute Lake Erie managed to get on the scoreboard when Dennis Costanzo found the net. With seven minutes remaining, Roth scored again off an assist from junior Sean Simpson (Kennedy/Silver Spring, Md.).
The Bobcats, now 6-5-2 and 3-1 in the Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference, return to action versus Washington & Jefferson at home on Tuesday, October 15th at 4:00p.m.
