FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -
Vincent Kooijam scored three goals to lead Mary Washington to a 3-1 win over the Frostburg State men’s soccer team Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats, who have lost four straight, fall to 1-6 overall while the Eagles improve 2-4-1.
Mary Washington broke into the game taking a 1-0 lead at 15:44 when Kooijam scored off a feed from Tait Keenan. Six minutes later, Kooijam gave UMW a 2-0 advantage when he netted a goal off the foot of Chris Dolan.
Despite being out shot 10-3 in the first half, the Bobcats kept the score close when senior Matt Moffa (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) closed the gap to 2-1 off the assist from sophomore Kenny Dotter (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point).
Midway through the second half, UMW put the game out of reach with its third goal of the afternoon.
“I am pleased with the effort from the guys today,” said Head Coach Keith Byrnes. “They worked extremely hard and kept playing even when we were down.”
The Bobcats return to action Thursday, September 22 when they host Bethany at 4:00 pm.
