Frostburg State moved to the .500 mark on the season with a 4-0 shutout of Division II Columbia Union College Thursday afternoon.
Freshman Jon Roth (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) staked the Bobcats to a 1-0 lead with 8:39 remaining in the first half by sending a drop pass from senior Gary Lesko (Waldorf, Md./McDonough) into the right corner of the net from 25 yards out for his first career goal.
FSU (3-3) then caught a break when freshman Mike Jungerheld (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) sent a shot towards the net that was knocked in by a Pioneer defender with 12 seconds left in the opening half, giving the Bobcats a 2-0 lead at the break.
Junior R.J. Purnell (Crisfield, Md./Crisfield) got the Bobcats going just 2:12 into the second half when he headed a feed from sophomore Rich Kuhn (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) into an open net.
Sophomore Scott Mucci (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) capped the scoring with 8:30 remaining off an assist from fellow sophomore James Denison (Fort Walsh, Md./Canterbury).
The Bobcats outshot the Pioneers, 24-8, on the afternoon.
FSU will host Lake Erie in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match Saturday at 3:00 p.m. before facing Lincoln at home Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
