FROSTBURG, MD –
Frostburg State edged visiting Westminster 3-2 in the cold rain Sunday afternoon. The Titans, who are ranked number one in the President’s Athletic Conference, had the lead until junior Jon Roth (Magruder/Gaithersburg, Md.)
tallied the tying goal in the 41st minute. Junior Jamie Romano (John Carroll/Joppatowne, Md.)
tallied the game-winner in the 59th minute.
The Bobcats (9-4-2) were the first to draw blood when freshman Dave Stinson (Urbana/Ijamsville, Md.) found the net with a blast from 25 yards out in the 30th minute.
Less than three minutes later, Westminster (8-9-1) tied it up when junior Sebastian Driver-Salazar found the net on a penalty kick at 33:33.
The Titans jumped ahead when freshman Mark Sadler headed the ball in off an assist from freshman Sam Robinson in the 38th minute.
Roth found the net in the 41st minute off a corner kick by Stinson to level scoring at 2-2.
The Red and Black clustered around the Titan goal and after a few touches Romano booted it in for the game-winning tally in the 59th minute.
Freshman Keeper Tom Sadler (Sandy Spring Friends/Silver Sring, Md.) had four saves on the day.
The Bobcats outshot the Titans 15-10 and held a 7-5 edge in corners.
“Westminster is a quality team and this win was good for us after our tough win over Pitt-Greensburg yesterday,” said head coach Keith Byrnes. “The Titans are number-one in the PAC and it was tough to play in the rain. Our guys never gave up and I’m very happy with their effort today.”
The Bobcats return to action Wednesday, October 29, when they host Marymount at 3 p.m.
