Men's Soccer Ties Division II California (Pa.)
10/07/2003

CALIFORNIA,PA - Frostburg State scored a goal in the first half and host California University of Pennsylvania scored in the second half, forcing a double-overtime that resulted in a tie.

California came to the match ranked 7th in the region in the latest Division II poll.

FSU carried play through most of the match and outworked California for the first 45 minutes.

The Red and Black opened up scoring in the first half when junior Ben David (Western S.T.E.S/Woodlawn, Md.) found the net off an assist from senior Rob Burns (Joppatowne/Joppatowne, Md.) in the 15th minute.

In the second half, California stepped-up its game and became more dangerous as FSU fell into a bit of a defensive shell trying to protect its one goal lead.

The Vulcans (7-4-2) pulled even in the 74th minute when freshman John Pazehoski found the net off an assist from freshman Bryan Higgins.

The Bobcats turned it on again in overtime and created a few more scoring opportunities, but were unable to find the net. The Red and Black outshout the Vulcans 6-5 and had a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

Freshman keeper and Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference goalkeeper of the week Tom Sadler (Sandy Spring Friends/Silver Spring, Md.) tallied two saves on the day.

"I was very pleased with our work rate today," said head coach Keith Byrnes. "I'm a little dissapointed that we didn't come away with the win because I thought we did enough to deserve it."

The Bobcats (3-3-2) return to action Saturday, October 11th, when they host AMCC opponent Lake Erie at 3:00 pm.
