– Junior Kenny Dotter (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point)
scored on a header in overtime to beat Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Lake Erie 1-0, Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Bobcats improve to 3-5 overall and 1-0 in the AMCC, while the Storm fall to 5-3 overall and 0-1 in the AMCC.
FSU made several adjustments to their lineup Saturday afternoon, due to injuries and fatigue from several starters.
Frostburg State had possession for much of the match, however, ninety minutes would not be enough time to determine a winner between the Bobcats and the Storm.
FSU started the first overtime period with high energy, and it paid off when the Bobcats capitalized on a Storm mistake in the 94th minute of the first overtime period.
Senior Steve Zoutman (Chester, N.Y./Goshen), who was pushed up from his normal center-back position, stole the ball from a Lake Erie player and crossed the ball into the Storm goalbox.
Dotter then headed in the ball past LEC goalkeeper Mike Loparo. With the score, Dotter now leads the Bobcats with five goals on the season.
FSU senior goalkeeper Derek Richardson (New Windsor, Md./Linganore) recorded three saves for his third win of the season, while Loparo tallied seven saves for the Storm.
Frostburg State held a slim, 13-10 edge in shots and a 9-5 lead in corner kicks.
“I was very proud of our work ethic this afternoon,” said head coach Keith Byrnes. “The defense played a great game and it was tactically the best 90-minute performance we’ve had all year.”
The Bobcats return to action September 26, when they travel to face nonconference opponent Hood College at 4:00 pm.
