Men's Swimming & Diving Finishes Eighth, Women Ninth at Longnecker Invitational

GROVE CITY, Pa. — The Frostburg State men’s swimming and diving team finished eighth out of nine teams, while the women placed ninth out of 10 teams at the James E. Longnecker Invitational held this past weekend at Grove City College.

Junior Chris Williams (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) continued his strong season with three top-five finishes. He placed third in the 50-yard freestyle (21.64), fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (47.96) and fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (55.33).

William also competed in three relay events. He joined sophomore Tom Sandor (Somerset, Pa./Somerset), junior Sean Leaman (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) and junior Brendon Craig (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) to finish 12th in the 800-yard freestyle relay (8:02.04) and teamed with sophomore Kyle Meyer (Clifton, Va./Centreville), junior J.D. Ottey (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) and senior Billy Spencer (Frostburg, Md./Thomas Johnson) to place 13th in the 200-yard medley relay (1:49.86).

Williams then joined Leaman, Billy Spencer and Sandor to finish 14th in the 400-yard medley relay (4:15.31).

Sophomore Kyle Meyer (Clifton, Va./Centreville) was fifth in the 3-meter diving (140.70 points) and sixth in the 1-meter diving (171.15), while junior Steve Ramsey (Olney, Md./Magruder) was sixth in the 3-meter diving (130.90) and eighth in the 1-meter diving (142.30).

Freshman Paul Foley (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) placed seventh in the 1-meter diving (159.05).

Craig was 12th in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 19:01.91, while Leaman was right behind him in 13th in 19:03.95.

Senior Patrick Serrano (Silver Spring, Md./Sherwood) finished 15th in the 200-yard butterfly (2:47.92), while junior Calvin Kiple (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) followed in 16th (2:59.78).

Ottey placed 14th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.39 and teamed with Cross, sophomore Matt Nestor (Westminster, Md./Calvert Hall) and freshman Nate Haugh (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) to finish 14th in the 400-yard freestyle relay (4:03.44).

Serrano, Meyer, freshman Allen Miller (Seabrook, Md./DuVal) and Kiple were also 15th in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:45.38, while Billy Spencer, Tommy Spencer, Cross and Haugh finished 15th in the 800-yard freestyle relay in 8:36.28.

On the women’s side, freshman Brittany Blystone (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) placed sixth in the 3-meter diving (156.65) and eighth in the 1-meter diving (180.55).

Freshman Shannon Dunnigan (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) was eighth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:39.53), 13th in the 200-yard butterfly (2:30.81) and 14th in the 400-yard individual medley (5:11.37).

She also teamed with junior Kristin Moats (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County), senior Melody Hanna (Frostburg, Md./Beall) and junior Heather Hamor (Nanjemoy, Md./Lackey) for a sixth-place showing in the 800-yard freestyle relay (8:39.42) and joined sophomore Amy Contino (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional), freshman Shannon Hurkett (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) and sophomore Megan Falls (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) to finish 16th in the 200-yard freestyle relay (4:57.59).

Moats finished 11th in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.27), 12th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:43.40) and 15th in the 200-yard individual medley (2:22.44).

Hanna was 15th in the 50-yard freestyle (26.83), the 100-yard freestyle (57.95) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.15).

Hurkett finished 14th in the 1,650-yard freestyle (22:11.79), Hamor added a 16th-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:51.95) and freshman Julie Groetzinger (La Vale, Md./Bishop Walsh) placed 16th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.61).

Moats, Groetzinger, Hanna and Hamor were also 13th in the 400-yard medley relay (4:37.71), 14th in the 400-yard freestyle (3:59.27) and 15th in the 200-yard medley relay (2:04.98).

Groetzinger, Hurkett, Contino and Falls finished 15th in the 800-yard freestyle (9:33.04), and freshman Amanda Delaney (Frostburg, Md./Beall), freshman Stephanie Deming (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill), Blystone and freshman Megan Deming (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) placed 16th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:18.57).
