GREENSBURG, PA —
The Frostburg State men's tennis team picked up its third straight win with a 9-0 blanking of host Pitt-Greensburg Thursday at the Greensburg Racquet Club.
The Bobcats, who improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, began the day with a sweep of the three doubles matches.
Junior Justin Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) and senior Sean Shillinger (Darnestown, Md./Quince Orchard) downed Chris and Bryan Gesinski, 8-0, at the top tandem flight.
Sophomores Gary Lyst (Silver Spring, Md./Blair) and Andrew Spangenberg (Frederick, Md./Frederick) followed with an 8-1 win over Mike Heise and Ryan Stetz at the second spot.
Junior Pete Della-Luna (Moshpee, Mass./Longmeadow) and senior Scott Ruest (Waldorf, Md./McDonough) finished the doubles sweep with an 8-0 blanking of Matt Grossman and Gary McMeekin at the third flight.
Frostburg State had little trouble in the singles matches, winning all six flights in straight sets.
Stephens posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Chris Gesinski at No. 1, Lyst followed with a 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Bryan Gesinski at No. 2 and Ruest turned in a 6-3, 6-0 win against Heise at No. 3.
Shillinger then downed Grossman, 6-3, 6-2, at the fourth flight, Spangenberg blanked Stetz, 6-0, 6-0, at the fifth spot and Della-Luna closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win over McMeekin at the sixth position.
Frostburg State returns to action March 29 at noon against Dickinson in the Villa Julie Tournament.
