GREENSBURG, PA -
The Frostburg State men's tennis team blanked host Pitt-Greensburg Monday afternoon to improve to 4-8 overall and 2-1 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
Senior Justin Stephens (Southern Garrett/Oakland, Md.) continued his strong season, teaming with junior Gary Lyst (Blair/Silver Spring, Md.) for an 8-0 win over Josh Thorpe and Brian Jones at the No. 1 doubles spot before shutting out Thorpe 6-0, 6-0 at the top singles flight.
Seniors Pete Della-Luna (Longmeadow/Moshpee, Mass.) and Dustin Robinson (Leonardtown/Leonardtown, Md.) downed Jon Germock and Chris Streett 8-2 at the second doubles position, and junior Jake Helms (North County/Linthicum, Md.) and freshman Andrew Holt (Southern/Harwood, Md.) posted an 8-2 win over Scott Feltenberger and Dave Miller at the third tandem flight.
Frostburg State dominated singles play as well, dropping just 10 games in the six matches.
Lyst was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Feltenberger at No. 2 and Della Luna turned in a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Jones at No. 3.
Robinson had little trouble in a 6-0, 6-1 win versus Germock, Holt posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Streett and Helms closed the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Miller.
The same two squads are scheduled to meet tomorrow in Frostburg beginning at 3:00 pm.
