FROSTBURG, MD -
The Frostburg State men's tennis team swept the singles matches to defeat Washington & Jefferson, 8-1, Sunday afternoon at the Cordts Tennis Complex.
With the win, FSU improved to 5-4 overall.
Sophomore Andy Chisholm (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) defeated Gary Tan to take the title in No. 1 singles with scores of 3-6, 6-4, 7-6, freshman classmate Greg Shedd (Middletown, Md./Middletown) won the No. 2 spot by default over Jeff Tomaino. In No. 3 singles, sophomore Matt Chisholm (La Plata, Md./La Plata) beat Matt Riddle 6-0, 6-4.
Freshmen Fabian Uribe (Elgin, Ill./Elgin) won the No. 4 singles spot 6-0, 6-4 over Shaleen Pazel, while junior Chris Schoenbauer (Riva, Md./South River) won the No. 5 singles title in two-straight sets of 6-0. Senior Matt Quinn (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) earned the final singles victory in the No. 6 Spot, defeating Jon Marnell 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles action, the combination of Uribe and Shedd swept Riddle and Pazel, 8-0 at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3 doubles, Quinn and junior Brad Yoder (Hyndman, Pa./Christian Liberty Academy) downed Luke Belsky and Marnell, 8-1.
The Bobcats host Juniata for another non-conference match tomorrow at 4:00 pm.
