Men's Tennis Downs Penn State Behrend and Lake Erie to Extend Winning Streak to Six

ERIE, PA — The Frostburg State men’s tennis team extended its winning streak to six matches by defeating both Penn State Behrend and Lake Erie in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action Sunday afternoon at the Behrend Courts.

The Bobcats (8-2, 4-1 AMCC) began the day with a 6-3 win over Penn State Behrend.

Sophomore Justin Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) and senior Terence Killen (Darnestown, Md./Quince Orchard) opened with an 8-1 win at the top doubles spot before the Lions claimed both the second and third flights.

FSU took control in singles play, winning five of the six matches.

Stephens claimed a 6-0 win in his first set against senior David Cooper before Cooper retired. Junior Scott Ruest (Waldorf, Md./McDonough) then picked up a 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) victory at the third flight.

Senior Dave Butler (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) posted an easy 6-2, 6-2 triumph at No. 4, and fellow senior Sean Shillinger (Darnestown, Md./Quince Orchard) followed with a 6-4, 6-0 win at the No. 5 spot.

Junior Matt Dickey (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory at the sixth flight to complete the win.

Senior Terence Killen (Darnestown, Md./Quince Orchard) fell, 6-2, 6-2, at the second flight for his first AMCC loss of the year.

The Bobcats had no trouble with Lake Erie, winning seven matches by a shutout. The Storm forfeited the No. 3 doubles spot.

Killen and Stephens teamed for an 8-0 victory at the top doubles flight, and Butler and Shillinger turned in a similar win at the second position.

Stephens, Killen, Ruest, Butler and Shillinger ran the table at the top five singles spots, 6-0, 6-0, and Dickey picked up a win by default at the No. 6 flight.

The Bobcats will host Bethany (W.Va.) on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
