RAWLINGS, MD —
Frostburg State picked up its seventh straight win with an 8-1 defeat of visiting Penn State Behrend in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action Saturday afternoon at Rawling Heights Racquet Club.
The Bobcats (9-2, 5-1 AMCC) began the day by taking two of the three doubles contests.
Sophomore Justin Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) and senior Terence Killen (Darnestown, Md./Quince Orchard) teamed for an 8-4 win over Dave Cooper and Brent Carlson at the top spot before the Lions evened the match behind Mike Oey and Jacob Hillman's 8-4 defeat of seniors Sean Shillinger (Darnestown, Md./Quince Orchard) and Dave Butler (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) at the second flight.
Junior Scott Ruest (Waldorf, Md./McDonough) then teamed with freshman Andrew Spangenberg (Frederick, Md./Frederick) for an 8-1 win over Andrew Schenck and Steven Broussard at the No. 3 spot.
Frostburg State swept the six singles matches, winning four in straight sets.
Stephens downed Cooper, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 1 flight, and Killen turned in a 6-2, 6-0 win against Oey at the second spot.
Ruest held off Carlson, 6-5, 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), in an exciting match at the third flight, and Butler posted a 7-5, 6-2 win over Hillman at the fourth position.
Shillinger defeated Schenck, 6-4, 6-3, at the fifth flight before junior Matt Dickey (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) rallied past Sheel Galliara, 1-6, 6-0, 6-4, to complete the victory.
Frostburg State returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Waynesburg at 3:00 p.m.
