The Frostburg State men's tennis team dropped a narrow 5-4 AMCC contest to Penn State Altoona Monday afternoon at the Rawling Heights Racquet Club.
The Bobcats are now 5-10 overall and 3-3 in the AMCC.
Senior Justin Stephens (Southern Garrett/Oakland, Md.) continued his outstanding season, picking up wins at the No. 1 doubles and singles flights.
Stephens teamed with junior Gary Lyst (Blair/Silver Spring, Md.) for an 8-2 win over Jarat Feerrar and Sean Condit before dowing Feerrar 6-1, 6-2 in singles play.
Lyst earned a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 victory against Condit at the second singles spot, while freshman Andrew Holt (Southern/Harwood, Md.) edged Pat Cooper in a 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) marathon at No. 5.
However, Penn State Altoona (6-6, 3-3) picked up two doubles wins and three more singles victories to claim the match.
Andy Chang and Chris Baker paired for an 8-5 win over seniors Pete Della Luna (Longmeadow/Moshpee, Mass.) and Dustin Robinson (Leonardtown/Leaonardtown, Md.) at No. 2, while Cooper and Mike Stefan posted another 8-5 victory against Holt and junior Jake Helms (North County/Linthicum, Md.) at No. 3.
Chang then outlasted Della Luna 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-0) at No. 3 singles, while Baker added a 6-4, 6-2 win against Robinson at No. 4.
Stefan blanked Helms 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5.
The Bobcats return to action Tuesday when they host Waynesburg at 3:00 pm.
