Men's Tennis Finishes Third at AMCC Championships

WEXFORD, Pa. — The Frostburg State men’s tennis team finished third at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship held Sunday at the Oxford Athletic Club.

For the second consecutive year, Penn State Altoona tallied 10 points to win the title. Penn State Behrend came in second with eight points followed by FSU in third with seven and Pitt-Greensburg finished fourth with one point.

Sophomore Matt Chisholm (La Plata, Md./La Plata) captured the only Bobcat singles win when he took home the No. 3 title. He defeated UPG’s Adam Dearborn in the opening round, 6-1, 6-4 and PSB’s Jim Palmer, 6-1, 7-9, 6-1 to win the championship.

Freshmen Gregg Shedd (Middletown, Md./Middletown) and Fabian Uribe (Elgin, Ill./Elgin) captured the No. 2 doubles title, downing PSA’s Pat Cooper and Kevin Dolansky, 9-8, in the opening round and UPG’s Matt Blinky and Andy Laddusaw, 6-1, in the championship match.

Sophomore Andy Chisholm (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) was runner-up in No. 1 singles after defeating PSA’s William Shocker, 4-6, 7-6, 7-5 in the opening match and losing to PSB’s Miles Boyea in the title match, 6-4, 6-2.

Shedd was runner-up in No. 2 singles downing PSB’s Garrett Grenek, 6-0, 7-5 and falling to PSA’s Alex Chang 6-1, 6-4 while junior Chris Schoenbauer (Riva, Md./South River) was runner-up in No. 6 singles after beating PSB’s Brian Kaleta, 6-4, 6-0 and losing to PSA’s Brian Bascome 6-3, 6-0.

The Bobcats finished the season 7-7 overall and 3-3 in the AMCC.
