- Frostburg State ended its spring break trip with a tough 6-3 loss to Albright College Thursday afternoon. The loss drops them to 0-5 on their trip and 1-6 overall.
In doubles action senior Justin Stephens (Southern Garrett/Oakland, Md.) and junior Gary Lyst (Blair/Silver Spring, Md.) got the Bobcats on the scoreboard with an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles over Jeremy Speicher and Matt Zimmerman. FSU followed with another victory at No. 2 doubles as seniors Pete Della-Luna (Longmeadow/Moshpee, Mass.) and Dustin Robinson (Leonardtown/Leonardtown, Md.) defeated Roy Finney and Anthony Checchio 8-2.
At third doubles, junior Andrew Spangenberg (Frederick/Frederick, Md.) and freshman Andrew Holt (Southern/Harwood, Md.) were blanked 8-0 by Ian Matlack and Tim Lauro to give Albright its first point of the day.
In singles play, Stephens lost a tough three-setter to Speicher 7-5, 5-7, (10-8). At the second flight, Lyst lost 6-1, 6-1 to Zimmerman. Spangenberg then lost 6-1, 6-1 to Finney at third singles.
Della Luna dropped his match to Checchio at fourth singles 6-4, 6-1. FSU then got its lone win in singles as Robinson beat Matlack 6-3, 6-1 at fifth singles. Jake Helms (North County/Linthicum, Md.) then lost to Lauro at sixth flight 6-1, 6-4.
Frostburg State returns to action on Tuesday March 30th when it opens up its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference schedule at Penn State Altoona.
