GIBSONIA, PA —
The Frostburg State men’s tennis team captured the Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference for the second straight year.
FSU senior Gary Lyst (Silver Spring, Md./Blair) was voted as the Player of the Year for the second straight year while freshman Matt Chisholm (La Plata, Md./La Plata) earned Newcomer of the Year honors. Last season, Dustin Robinson captured the Newcomer of the Year award for the Bobcats.
Penn State Altoona’s Steve Genter was named Coach of the Year after guiding his Lion squad to a 5-1 regular season AMCC mark and the AMCC Tournament title.
Lyst had a stellar senior campaign, posting a perfect 5-0 mark against AMCC competition at No. 1 singles as well as a 4-1 mark in No. 2 doubles.
At the AMCC Tournament, Lyst won the No. 1 singles championship and teamed with Chisholm to capture the No. 1 doubles title.
Lyst earned First Team All-AMCC honors in the first singles flight as well as first team honors in the first doubles flight.
Overall, he was 10-4 in singles play and 10-4 in doubles this season.
Chisholm won both the No. 3 singles title as well as the No. 1 doubles title.
Chisholm was 4-2 in singles against the AMCC and 5-1 in doubles against league opponents. Overall, he finished 8-7 in singles and 11-4 in doubles.
He earned first team honors in both the third singles flight and the first doubles flight.
Sophomore Chris Schoenbauer (Riva, Md./South River) was awarded second-team all-conference honors in the fifth singles flight. He finished the season 2-4 in the AMCC and was the runner-up at No. 5 singles in the AMCC Tournament.
The Bobcats finished the season 1-12 overall and 1-5 in the AMCC.
