SALISBURY, MD -
The Frostburg State men's tennis team saw its 18-match winning streak come to an end with a 9-0 loss at cross-state rival Salisbury Monday afternoon.
The Sea Gulls took control of the match with a sweep of the three doubles contests.
Justin Stephens and Terence Killen fell to Nick Peel and Greg Forster, 8-4, at the top spot, and Dave Butler and Sean Shillinger dropped an 8-1 decision to Scott Mayberry and Ed Snyder at the second flight.
Andrew Spangenberg and Scott Ruest then lost to Jacob Cook and Matt Vecchiolla, 8-1, at the No. 3 position.
Salisbury continued its strong performance in singles action, winning all six matches in straight sets.
Stephens fell to Peel, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 1 flight, while Killen was defeated by Mayberry, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) at the second spot.
Ruest then dropped a 6-2, 6-0 contest to Forster at the third flight before Butler was downed 6-1, 6-0 by Snyder at the fourth spot.
Shillinger fell, 6-0, 6-1, to Cook at the fifth flight, and Spangenberg dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Vecchiolla at the sixth position.
The Bobcats return to action tomorrow when they visit Penn State Altoona in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match beginning at 3:00 pm.
