FROSTBURG, MD -
The Frostburg State men's tennis team shut out Pitt-Greensburg 9-0 for the second day in a row Tuesday. FSU is now 5-8 overall and 3-1 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
Senior Justin Stephens (Southern Garrett/Oakland, Md.) and junior Gary Lyst (Blair/Silver Spring, Md.) were 8-2 winners over Tim Lange and Brian Jones at the top doubles flight, while seniors Pete Della-Luna (Longmeadow/Moshpee, Mass.) and Dustin Robinson (Leonardtown/Leonardtown, Md.) downed Jon Germock and Chris Streett 8-1 at the second flight.
FSU picked up another win at the No. 3 doubles flight by forfeit.
Justin Stephens blanked Josh Thorpe 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Robinson outlasted Lange 6-3, 3-6, 11-9 at No. 2.
Lyst posted a 6-1, 6-0 win Jones at the No. 3 position, while Della-Luna added a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Germock at the No. 4 flight.
Freshman Matt Stephens (Southern Garrett/Oakland, Md.) earned his first collegiate singles victory with a hard-fought 6-3, 2-6, 10-5 decision over Streett at the No. 5 singles spot.
Pitt-Greensburg forfeited the No. 6 singles flight as well.
Frostburg State will host Penn State Behrend (11-7, 4-0 AMCC) in a key conference match Saturday at 10:00 am. PSB edged FSU 5-4 last Saturday in Erie.
