— The Frostburg State men’s tennis team shutout Pitt-Greensburg 9-0 Tuesday afternoon to improve to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
In doubles action, senior Gary Lyst (Silver Spring, Md./Blair) and freshman Matt Chisholm (La Plata, Md./La Plata) earned an 8-1 win over the UPG team of Rob Pulcini and Adam Dearborn. The team of sophomore Chris Schoenbauer (Riva, Md./South River) and freshman John Thrasher (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) also won by the score of 8-1 over Chris Street and Matt Russell.
In singles action, Lyst swept Pulcini 6-0, 6-1 to keep his winning streak alive at 11 matches dating back to April 3, 2004. Senior Andrew Spangenberg (Frederick, Md./Frederick) and freshman Jacob Hondert (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) each recorded shutout victories as Spangenberg defeated Dearborn 6-0,6-2 and Hondert got past Pat Smith by the scores of 6-0, 6-0.
FSU Sophomore Matt Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) defeated Peyton Mullin, 6-2, 7-6 earning his first victory of the season.
FSU returns to action tomorrow when they host Penn State Altoona at 3:00 pm.
