NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -
In men’s tennis action, Frostburg State won all six singles and all three doubles matches in straight sets as it shutout Westminster, 9-0, Friday.
With the win, FSU evens its record at 2-2 overall.
Sophomore Greg Shedd (Middletown, Md./Middletown) and junior Ryan Rice (Hampton, Va./Shape American) had two of the strongest performances of the day. Shedd defeated Gene Cunningham 6-0, 6-1 in No. 1 singles while Rice won No. 4 singles over Mark Drabick, 6-1, 6-0.
Senior Andy Chisholm (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) lost just three games on the way to a 6-0, 6-3 win in No. 2 singles over Stefan Hadricky while junior Matt Chisholm (La Plata, Md./La Plata) earned the win in No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Fred Romeo.
In No. 5 singles, senior Chris Schoenbauer (Riva, Md./South River) downed Nate Dodd 6-4, 6-1 and in No. 6 singles, senior Brad Yoder (Hyndman, Pa./Christian Liberty Academy) defeated Scott Lawrence 6-2, 6-3.
Shedd and M. Chisholm combined to take down Cunningham and Hadricky in the top doubles match, 8-2. A. Chisholm and Rice lost just one game in a 8-1 victory over Romeo and Rhodes in No. 2 doubles and Schoenbauer and Yoder defeated Drabick and Lawrence in No. 3 doubles, 8-3.
FSU is back in action tomorrow when it travels to Penn State Behrend for a trimatch with Alfred.
