Minard Named Defensive Line Coach
08/02/2006

FROSTBUGR, MD - Frostburg State University head football coach Rubin Stevenson recently announced the hiring of Bill Minard as the team’s defensive line coach.

“I am excited to have Bill as a part of the coaching staff,” said Stevenson. “He has a lot of experience on both sides of the ball and I look forward to working with him this season.”

Minard, who owns a wealth of coaching experience, joins the FSU staff after serving as the defensive coordinator at McPherson College (Kan.) for the last four years.

Under his tutelage, the team ranked sixth in the nation in pass defense and 13th in the country in total defense. In 2001-02, he served as McPherson’s special teams coordinator.

Before joining the staff at McPherson, Minard served as the defensive coordinator at Fort Davis High School in Texas from 1997-1998. He guided the team to the fourth ranked defense in West Texas.

In 1996-97, he was the offensive line coach at Sul Ross State. That year, SRSU captured the American Southwest Conference title and ranked 12th in the nation in total offense.

Minard began his coaching career at Methodist College where he served as the offensive line assistant from 1994-95. He then moved to the defensive side of the ball, coaching the linebackers for the 1995-96 season.

“I am excited about the opportunity to work with Coach Stevenson,” said Minard. “I have always admired the tradition of FSU and I am glad to be a part of it.”

Minard graduated from Methodist with a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1994 and also earned his master's degree in kinesiology from Sul Ross State in 1997.

At Methodist, he was a member of the football team starting 27 games on the offensive line while serving as team captain as a senior.
