MEDFORD, MA —
Frostburg State junior All-American Dante Myles (Hyattsville, Md./Archbishop Carroll)
won the 55-meter dash and placed third in the 200-meter dash to lead the Frostburg State men's track and field team to a 12th-place finish out of 66 schools at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships Saturday at Tufts University's Gantcher Center.
On the women's side, junior Maria Ferguson (Fairmont Heights, Md./Laurel) finished third in the 55-meter dash in 7.23 seconds to help the Bobcats place 39th out of 67 schools with six points.
Myles ran the 55-meter dash in 6.41 seconds, and he turned in a 22.28 in the 200-meter dash to account for 16 of FSU's 21 points.
Freshman Greg Lambert (Columbia, Md./Hammond) placed sixth in the 500-meter run in 1:07.85 to earn three team points, while the 4x200-meter relay team of junior K.O. Gray (Bowie, Md./Southern), junior Tyque McCarthy (Bowie, Md./Central), Lambert and sophomore Randy Belt (Upper Marlboro, Md./Patuxent) teamed for seventh-place showing in 1:32.82.
In the triple jump, sophomore Travis Bouldin (Greensboro, Md./North Caroline) placed 10th (43-11.75) despite a bad ankle, while sophomore Michael McGreevy (Cumberland, Md./Allegany) finished 14th (43-1).
Sophomore Dwayne Dabney (Baltimore, Md./Southwestern) fought through an injured hamstring for a 28th-place finish in the 500-meter dash in 1:17.89, while Belt came up short in the pole vault and did not place.
"Dante was impressive again in the 55," said first-year head coach Felix Moreno. "He ran the fastest in the preliminary round (6.44), and I'm anxious to see him perform at the national championships. Greg's performance was phenomenal, and he'll certainly be a major factor at the national level during the outdoor season.
"In the 4x200, K.O. ran with a sore ankle, and yet with the support of his teammates, they were able to score points for us. Travis was hampered by an injury as well, but I'm sure he'll be a contender in the outdoor season."
In women's action, Ferguson picked up all six Bobcat points with her third-place finish in the 55-meter dash, and she placed 17th in the 400-meter dash (1:00.34).
Ferguson joined freshman Mysel Abrokwa (Takoma Park, Md./Blair), freshman Lynnea Finch (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin) and junior Serena Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Mergenthaler) on the 4x400-meter relay team that set a season-best time of 4:10.38 and finished 14th in a strong 19-team field.
"Overall, this meet was a great indication of a promising future for our program," said Moreno. "Certainly, this team is going places."
