NOTE NEW LOCATION: Anti-Racist Author Tim Wise to Discuss Post-Racial Politics for Diversity Week at FSU
Tim Wise, anti-racist writer and activist, will present “Colorblind: The Rise of Post-Racial Politics and the Retreat from Racial Equity” at Frostburg State University on Thursday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m. in Cordts PE Center Main Arena (note new location).

In his presentation for Diversity Week at FSU, Wise will discuss the pitfalls of “colorblindness,” urging color-consciousness in public and private practices. Wise argues that we cannot move toward social and economic equity until we acknowledge the diverse identities that have shaped our perceptions and the ongoing role of race in the maintenance of disparities between whites and people of color in the United States.

Wise has spoken in 49 states and on over 500 college campuses. He received his B.A. from Tulane University and anti-racism training from the People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond in New Orleans. His published works include “Between Barack and a Hard Place: Racism and White Denial in the Age of Obama” (City Lights) and “Speaking Treason Fluently: Anti-Racist Reflections From an Angry White Male” (Soft Skull Press).

Wise’s presentation is sponsored by the FSU Black Student Alliance and the FSU Diversity Center. For more information, contact the Diversity Center at 301-687-4050.
