Olson, Foote Playing for the Maryland Pride of WPSL
06/03/2004

FROSTBURG, MD - Frostburg State current assistant coach Jamie Olson and former standout Amy Foote are playing for the Maryland Pepsi Pride of the Women's Premier Soccer League this summer.

The Pride, who opened their season with a 3-0 road loss to the Steel City (Pittsburgh) Sparks May 22, play their home games at Dundalk Community College.

The roster includes former players from such Division I programs like Maryland, Penn State and Syracuse.

Olson completed her first season as a graduate assistant coach with the Bobcats last year and helped the team to a 16-5 overall record and a perfect 6-0 mark in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.

FSU won its third straight AMCC title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row as well. The Bobcats downed Westminster 3-2 in the first round before dropping a thrilling 1-0 decision to second-ranked Scranton in the region semifinals.

Olson enjoyed a strong playing career as a goalkeeper at Division I Campbell (N.C.) University. She posted a school-record 294 career saves to go along with a 2.07 goals against average.

Olson, a graduate of Chambersburg Area (Pa.) High School, earned her degree in exercise science from Campbell in May 2003 and is pursuing her master's degree in interdisciplinary education with an emphasis in sports management.

Foote (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) graduated as FSU’s all-time leader in both goals (48) and points (118) and helped the Bobcats to a 50-28 overall record from 1998 to 2001.

As a freshman, she was named the AMCC Co-Newcomer of the Year and earned NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region third team honors.

As a senior, she was voted the AMCC MVP after scoring 17 goals and adding nine assists. She led FSU to a 17-5 finish, its first AMCC title and its first berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Foote was a first-team All-AMCC selection all four years.
