"PlayRights" Returns to FSU with Program on Date Violence
08/29/2000

"PlayRights" will bring its educational theater back to Frostburg State University Thursday, Sept. 7, to help students and the community explore the issue of dating violence. The performances will be at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. in the FSU Performing Arts Center Drama Theatre. It is free and open to the public.

"PlayRights" helps students explore questions like, "What would you do if a friend told you her boyfriend was hitting her? What if her boyfriend seemed like a nice guy?" Dating violence is a prevalent problem among high school and college students. In an interactive format, the audience will be able to ask characters questions to understand their thoughts and feelings - and what is really happening.

The program challenges misconceptions about dating violence and provides practical information about victims' legal, medical and community options, rights in a relationship and ways for students of both genders to support victims and work to end violence against women.

"PlayRights" was created by Equalogy Inc, a non-profit organization expanding awareness and promoting change on equality.

The program is sponsored by the Family Resource Crisis Center, the FSU S.A.F.E. Office and the FSU BURG Peer Education Network. For more information, contact the S.A.F.E. Office at (301) 687-7692.

FSU is committed to making all of its programs, services and activities accessible to persons with disabilities. To request accommodations through the ADA Compliance Office, call (301) 687-4102, TDD (301) 687-7955.
