Potts and Coffey Allow Just Two Hits Each; Softball Sweeps Mt. Aloysius

FROSTBURG, Md. - Senior Lori Potts (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) and freshman Katelyn Coffey (Middletown, Md./Middletown) allowed two hits each as Frostburg State swept Mt. Aloysius, 11-0 & 12-0, Wednesday afternoon.

Despite not playing for over two weeks, FSU (8-12, 5-1) looked sharp scoring 23 runs on 20 hits with no errors as each game lasted just 5.0 innings. MTA (1-13, 0-8) had just four hits on the afternoon and committed five errors.

Potts struckout a season-high 10 batters while earning the win in the opener. She tossed all 5.0 innings giving up just two hits and walking one.

Frostburg State broke onto the scoreboard in the first inning with four runs. Potts helped her own cause smacking a two-run single to right field for the first runs of the game. Junior Meghan Dabkowski (Eastnorthport, N.Y./Commack) also had a two-run single in the inning for the Bobcats.

After freshman Kelly Filipowicz (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) plated two runs in the third with a single to center field, FSU put the game away in the fourth with five runs. Freshman Lindsay Durkin (Damascus, Md./Damascus), who entered the game as a pinch hitter, starting the scoring with a two-run single to center. Senior Amanda Griswold (Rockville, Md./Magruder) and Filipowicz each had RBIs during inning and freshman Liesa Bohannon (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) scored on a Mountie error for FSU during the fourth.

In the nightcap, Coffey tossed her second-consecutive shutout at home after holding Mt. Aloysius to just two hits while fanning four. In her last outing at Bobcat Field, Coffey tossed a perfect game in a 4-0 victory over Penn State Altoona. At the plate, Coffey was 2-for-3 three with a pair of RBIs and runs scored.

After two runs in the first, the Bobcats tacked on four in the third for a 6-0 advantage. Griswold started the scoring in the third, crossing the plate on a passed ball. Coffey then singled home junior Amanda Baldwin (Baltimore, Md./North County) and later scored on an error by the MTA infield.

FSU blew the game wide open with six runs in the fourth. Coffey and Dabkowski scored the first two runs on bases loaded walks and Filipowicz singled home freshman Samantha Quirin (Lovettsville, Va./Loudoun Valley) for the third run of the inning. After Bohannon recorded an RBI ground out, Griswold capped the scoring with a two-run single.

On the afternoon, Filipowicz led Frostburg State at the plate going a combined 4-for-7 with four RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base. Dabkowski also had a solid effort going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs.

The Bobcats return to the field on Friday when they travel to Pitt-Bradford at 5:30 pm for a doubleheader.
