Potts Leads Frostburg State To A Split Over Medaille

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Senior Lori Potts (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) pitched a two-hitter in game one of a doubleheader, as Frostburg States split against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Medaille, Saturday afternoon.

FSU (10-14, 7-3) shut out MC (10-12, 8-4) in game one 3-0 and then went on to drop the second contest 5-2.

Potts got the Bobcats on the board in the first inning, when she doubled, scoring freshman Amber Macintosh (Point of Rocks, Md./Brunswick), who previously got on base with a single and then moved to second on a groundout by junior Amanda Baldwin (Baltimore, Md./North County).

FSU added to its lead in the second inning, when junior Meghan Dabkowski (Eastnorthport, N.Y./Commack) scored a run on a sophomore Kaitlyn Wagner (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) single. Wagner would later score on a groundout by Kelly Filipowicz (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach).

Both teams would be held scoreless through the remaining five innings. Potts, picked up her fourth win on the season, while striking out six and walking just three batters.

In the nightcap, Medaille scored early in the game when Carissa Ferrucci crossed the plate in the first inning.

The Mavericks would break the game open, tacking four runs on four hits in the bottom of the second.

FSU would bring the score to 5-2, in the top of the fourth, when Potts doubled and later scored on a groundout by Dabkowski. Senior Amanda Griswold (Rockville, Md./Magruder) would account for the other Bobcat run, when she scored on an error by an MC infielder.

At the plate, Potts and Griswold went 2-for-3, while MC’s Ferrucci went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Freshman Katelyn Coffey (Middletown, Md./Middletown) suffered the loss for Frostburg State, pitching 6.0 innings, striking out seven and allowing five runs.

The Bobcats return to the field tomorrow when they travel to Hilbert at 1:00 pm for a doubleheader.
