COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. —
The Frostburg State men’s and women’s track and field teams turned in solid performances at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III meet this past weekend on the campus of Ursinus College.
The men finished in 11th place out of 42 teams while the women were 14th out of 36 entries.
Junior Andy Watson (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) led the men with a fourth-place finish in the one-mile run (4:25.30) and a sixth-place showing in the 3,000-meter run (8:54.66).
Freshman Brian Leiter (New Windsor, Md./Francis Scott Key) took home third place and qualified for the NCAA national meet in the 800-meter run (1:54.94) while sophomore Curt Ruble (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg South) captured sixth in the 3,000-meter run (8:54.66). In the 55-meter dash, sophomore David Cheeks (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) was seventh in 6.49.
The men’s distance medley relay team of Watson, Leiter, Ruble and freshman Michael Sieman (Frostburg, Md./Bishop Walsh) recorded fourth with a time of 10:25.
On the women’s side, freshman Sumer Rohrs (Frostburg, Md./Forest (Fla.)) became the first-ever FSU runner to capture an ECAC title in the 55-meter hurdles when she won in 8.34. She also took home ninth in the 400-meter dash (59.90).
In the 200-meter dash, senior Chelsea Lewis (Hagerstown, Md./Pike) and sophomore Adrienne Raiford (Capitol Heights, Md./Gwynn Park) tied for ninth with times of 26.80.
The 4x200-relay team of Rohrs, Raiford, sophomore Jess Clingan (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) and freshman Ashlee Resh (Sipesville, Pa./Somerset) finished third in 1:46.26.
