Rohrs Sets School Record at 18th Annual Bucknell Winter Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Frostburg State men’s and women's track and field squads competed in the 18th Annual Bucknell Winter Classic in Gerhard Fieldhouse, Saturday. Sophomore Sumer Rohrs (Frostburg, Md./Forest) captured victory, set the school record and qualified for the NCAA Championship meet in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.27. The previous record was held by Gail Brown when she set the mark (8.31) in 1986.

Rohrs had an excellent race in the 400-meter dash. She crossed the line in second place in 58.90, qualifying for the ECAC Championships and finishing just 0.2 seconds off of the NCAA Championship provisional qualifying time. Rohrs capped the afternoon with a seventh-place finish in the 60-meter dash (8.03).

Junior Jessica Clingan (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) competed in three events. She took second in the 55-meter hurdles (8.45), fifth in the 60-meter dash (8.00) and eighth in the 400-meter dash (1:01.02).

In the 3,000-meter run, freshman Christina Aumand (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Huntingtown) was 10th with a personal best of 11:55.00 and in the 800-meter run, freshman Gwen Massey (Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford) was 11th in 2:33.73.

Sophomore Brian Leiter (New Windsor, Md./Francis Scott Key) recorded the only win on the men’s side, capturing victory in the 800-meter run (1:56.64) and qualifying for the ECAC Championships.

Junior David Cheeks (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) was fifth in the 400-meter dash (52.58) and 12th in the 60-meter dash (7.19).

Junior Nicholas Schiefelbein (Kensington, Md./Albert Einstein) set a season best and finished fifth in the 800-meter run (1:59.07) and sophomore Michael Siemann (Frostburg, Md./Bishop Walsh) finished 14th and set a personal best in the long jump with 20 feet, 5.25 inches. Siemann also captured 13th in the 500-meter dash (1:11.79).

Freshman Michael O’Brien (Baltimore, Md./Arundel) just missed qualifying for the ECAC Championship meet in the high jump after taking home seventh with a height of 6 feet, 3.25 inches.

Frostburg State returns to action on February 17-18 at the Mason-Dixon Conference Indoor Championships on the campus of Christopher Newport in Newport News, Va.
