GROVE CITY, PA — Senior Kelly Ryan (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) set a school record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.53 seconds to highlight several solid Bobcat performances at this weekend's James E. Longnecker Swimming & Diving Invitational at Grove City College.

The Bobcat men scored 328 points to finish sixth out of 10 teams, while the FSU women had 37 points to place 10th.

Ryan, who broke his own school record of 54.76 which he set in FSU's season-opening meet against York October 26, set the new mark Friday evening in the leadoff of the 400-yard medley relay and tied it Saturday in his runner-up finish in the individual event.

Ryan also helped the 400-yard medley team to a runner-up finish in a time of 3:39.27, placed third in both the 50-yard freestyle (22.14) and 200-yard backstroke (2:00.12) and teamed with senior Jay Garner (Darnestown, Md./Quince Orchard), sophomore Kevin Nolan (Annandale, Va./Annandale) and sophomore Jay Mayden (Baltimore, Md./Arlington Baptist) to finish fifth in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:41.50.

Garner and Mayden also enjoyed solid individual meets. Garmer won both the 200-yard individual medley (2:20.14) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:13.19) and finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.86).

Mayden placed second in the 400-yard individual medley (4:25.13), third in the 100-yard freestyle (49.90) and 11th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.45).

Ryan and Mayden joined Garner and sophomore Brian Flynn (Bridgewater, Conn./Shepaug Valley) to place third in the 400-yard freestyle in 3:18.29, and Garner, Nolan, Ryan and Mayden placed fourth in the 800-yard freestyle relay in 7:30.79.

Nolan was also eighth in 200-yard butterfly in 2:07.67 and 11th in the 100-yard butterfly in 56.57.
