The United States Army Emergency Relief has established the James Ursano Scholarship Fund to help Army families with the costs of post secondary undergraduate level education.
The program is open to full-time students who are dependent children, stepchildren or legally adopted children of Army soldiers on active duty, retired or deceased while on active duty of after retirement.
The yearly awards range from $700 to $1,800 and the minimum grade point average requirement is a 2.0. The scholarship is a renewable award for a maximum of four years. During the 2000-2001 academic year, 91% of the on-time applicants received scholarship money with the average award being $1,122.
Applicants must be registered in the Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System (DEERS), be unmarried for the entire academic year and be under the age of 22 on June 1, 2001. The post-marked application deadline is March 1, 2001. Applications are available in the Frostburg State University Financial Aid Office, Pullen Hall, or on the Internet at www.aerhq.org.
