Schwartz Named to AVCA Mid-Atlantic Region Team
11/20/2000

Colorado Springs, Colo. ... Frostburg State senior Sara Schwartz (Philomont, Va./Loudoun Valley) has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Mid-Atlantic Region Team in a recent announcement.

Schwartz, a 5-11 outside hitter, capped an outstanding season by helping the Bobcats to their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance, where they defeated Baldwin-Wallace, 3-1, in the opening round of the Great Lakes Regional in Cincinnati, Ohio. Schwartz recorded 14 kills and a team-high 18 digs as FSU picked up its first-ever NCAA Tournament victory. The Bobcats dropped a 3-0 decision to eventual region champion Mount St. Joseph in the semifinals and finished the season 34-4 overall.

For the season, Schwartz played all 135 games for the Bobcats and led the team with 600 kills and a .346 hitting percentage. She was also fourth in digs (242) and ranked fifth in both blocks (43) and service aces (32).

Schwartz was voted the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Most Valuable Player, earned AMCC Women's Volleyball Athlete of the Week honors three times and was named the AVCA Division III National Player of the Week once this year.

"Sara worked hard all year, was a team leader and a definite standout within our region," said FSU head coach Jon Teetzel. "She had an outstanding season and is very well-deserving of the honor."

Schwartz, who finished her career with 1,450 kills, 661 digs, 255 total blocks and 91 service aces, helped lead the Bobcats to a four-year record of 138-21, including a 46-1 mark in the AMCC. Frostburg State won four conference titles in her career and posted three straight perfect league records.
