FROSTBURG, MD —
Three Frostburg State athletes finished ranked among the national leaders in the final NCAA Division III football statistics released recently.
Senior running back DeNelle Hale (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) ranked in the top 22 in three categories. He finished 20th in all-purpose yards with 168.78 yards per game, 21st in scoring with 10.22 points per game and 22nd in rushing with 119.22 yards per game.
Hale, who also ranked 33rd in the nation in punt returns with 12.65 yards per return, earned All-Atlantic Central Football Conference first team honors as both a running back and punt returner.
Junior defensive tackle George O'Brien II (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore), the ACFC Defensive Player of the Year and a third-team Hewlett-Packard All-America selection, tied for 35th in the nation in sacks, averaging 1.0 per game.
He and fellow junior defensive end Ronald Luczak (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) tied for 39th in tackles for loss with 2.0 per game.
In the final team rankings, Frostburg State placed 11th in punt returns, averaging 13.96 yards per attempt.
The Bobcats finished 5-4 overall and placed second in the ACFC with a 2-1 record.
