Sidorowicz Named AMCC Pitcher of the Week
04/15/2003

FROSTBURG, MD - Junior Dan Sidorowicz (St. Mary's Ryken HS/Leonardtown, MD) was named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference “Pitcher of the Week” for his play during the week of April 6-13.

Sidorowicz’s (3-1) only appearance of the week came Sunday in a strong start against Catholic University in a very important second game of a doubleheader. The Bobcats (21-8-1), who won the first game of the doubleheader, were looking to move into the regional and national rankings and needed the sweep of Catholic to prove their worth to the voters.

In his appearance, Sidorowicz threw a seven inning complete game, allowing only one run on five hits, all singles in the 4-1 victory for the Bobcats. The box score itself doesn’t express the importance that Sidorowicz played in the victory. He only struck out three; while at the same time walked three, had two wild pitches, and even balked once and the Bobcat defense didn’t provide much help as they committed 2 errors.

However, Sidorowicz did not give up an unearned run and stranded seven of the Cardinal base runners. In the very first inning Catholic threatened with bases loaded on three singles and only one out, yet Sidorowicz worked out of the inning. In the second, Sidorowicz stranded two more base runners before finally faltering in the third for one run on only one hit.

Following the two-out RBI single in the third inning, Sidorowicz didn’t allow another hit as he set down 12 in a row before a two-out walk in the bottom of the seventh. The junior did not give up any hard-hit balls versus a team that has scored 178 runs in their first 28 games.

Sidorowicz ranks tied for second with his 3-1 overall record, is tied for third with 19 strikeouts and is sixth with a very respectable 4.07 earned run average.
